Sellin' out returns!

...next week, that is.

Haven't been able to get any new eBay auctions up as I've been so dad-blasted busy. I tried throughout this past week to put some stuff up, but I just haven't couldn't find the time. So it'll have to be Monday.

Here's a preview of a couple of the goodies you might see then:

Kris Okotie - "You Are My Woman"

Prince Nico Mbarga - "Happy Birthday"

Margaret Singana - "Where Is The Love"

William Onyeabor - "Love Me Now"

Bongos Ikwue & the Groovies - "Groovies Funk"

One World - "Mind Searcher"

I'm still sorting things out and working my way from the outer edges of the crates inwards... So keep checking back, because I will be coming with more rare grooves as time goes by. Also, feel free to hit me up with requests; if I don't have it, I will try to find it.

Correct jams. Haven't heard Kris Okotie in a while!

Prince nico is good stuff.

for some reason, Kris Okotie doesn't get a lot of play even among collectors of Naija music... i have some theaories as to why this is so, and i will probably be writing about them later...

Hmm, be careful what you wish for, re: requests! You may just unleash a dragon :o)

Would be really interested to know what you think about Kris Okoties's lack of airplay, have wondered about that too.

I have a couple of requests/questions...

1. Who sang the pop/r&b son, "eje ka jo, e dide"? I remember it was getting played around the same time as Mandy's "Breakthrough" album.

2. Do you have Tyna Onwudiwe's album, or do yo know how i can get one? The last time i was in Naija, i searched to no avail.

3. I only just found out William Onyeabor's name, after all these years. Apparently he has a bit of a cult following. Do you happen to have "When the going is smooth and good"?

I was born in the late 70's so dont have a lot of old school naija albums to share (you are def king/queen in that dept.) But i do have a lot of 80's and 90's r&b, i am willing to share.

Thanks!

That Margaret Singana is it an LP or a single? Let me know please..matt

MsMak -

yeah, i'll get into the Kris Okotie thing soon. i'm planning a big post about him!

as for your questions...

1. the group you are thinking of is Xtasy. i also have a very big post based around them that i will be putting up in the next few weeks

2. don't have Tyna's album, but i will put it on the list for you

3. yeah, William Onyeabor has developed quite a following over the past couple of years... he was really ahead of his time.

i do have "When the Going is Smooth and Good" and i was gonna post it a few weeks ago. i might even be putting it up on Monday.

i'm a hardcore 80s and 90s R&B cat (yes, i am a cat and not a kitten), so i'd love to hear what you have, MM!

Matt -

it is indeed an LP. something you've been looking for?

Okay try these: I've got Ray Parker Jr's "After Dark" album, with one of my all time favs "I don't think that men should sleep alone"...

Also a copy of DJ Rogers Jr "Emosoul" which never got released...

Let me know if you want them.

Comb & Razor said...

both of those sound pretty cool, MM... i loved that After Dark album (though my favorite Ray Parker joints were earlier jams like "Two Places At the Same Time" and "Jack & Jill" - i guess those are both Raydio).

and i don't think i ever heard that Emosoul... sounds cool!

yeah, hit me up when you get a chance!

William Onyeabor has developed a cult following lately because his music is freaking awesome. I was able to get his Atomic Bomb LP off of a saint on the soul seekn forum and it is a revelation. So if you are willing to share what else you have of Onyeabor, I'd be in your debt. Regardless, damn, you sure do share some gold on this here blog! Gold I say!

Yes, I KNOW my blog needs more attention; I've been having serious internet woes and the only way I can get online is via my girl's computer–which has NONE of my music on it. But fair is fair. I'll whip together a few things and do a mass post. But wait: wasn't my last post the shit due in large part from what I got from you? Ha!
All my best.

Brother mine, How you doing?
Been trying to catch up on blogging the past few days. As a nursing father, y'know.

Seeing that Willie Onyeabor's sleeve again brought back memories o. I def will want to hear more about him. He (OK. His music) was a major distraction for me when I was writing my O Levels. He was top of the Polygram (?) Top Ten on radio for months on end with his 'When the going is smooth and good'. The show wan anchored by Benson Idonije back then.

I am not very sure about the Polygram part cos I believe he had his own label then or something.

His music had a way of catching up on you and you end up liking it. Y'know, the kind of tunes you hum and whistle in the bath and everywhere.

Bros, I know you wont disappoint. We are waiting o. More grease to ya elbows.

PS. Are you and GNaija trying to sell us or what? In fact, I am going to learn this Potoki by all means sef.

hey bro -

believe me, i know... i've fallen behind on the blogging myself--and i don't even have a newborn kid!

anyway, i will definitely be posting some William Onyeabor soon.

(and yes, you are right... he always released his music on his own label, Wilfilms.)

i really wish you would post "when the going is smooth & good". that would make my day!

Hello - this is a fantabulous site! I love it all, especially the william onyeabor tune from tomorrow - You wouldn't happen to have the whole album would you? if so could you put it up. It would be greatly appreciated. if you also have any other william onyeabor albums that would also be fantastic!

jajaonan said...

Also, sorry - do you have the buari album?

Comb & Razor said...

hey jajaonan -

yep, i've got a couple of Onyeabor albums... not sure which Buari album you are referring to, though, as he released several. (i don't have any of them, anyway!)

Dude, just got some info on the band One World, who hapopen to be one of my favourite Afro-Funk band of all time. Apparently the band comprised elements of Bob Miga's Stranger's who left to form One World i.e Ani Hoffner- (Guitar); Sam Matthews- (Vocals/Percs); Geoffrey Imadhebo (Drums)- a truly awesome band, who stayed on the EMI label with Bob Miga, who reformed the Strangers and re-released the monster hit Love Rock, this time with Drummer Ahmed Moore (now the Very Revd. Moore) on Drums. This band, was probably one of the best but sadly unacknowledged bands of the 70's with hits like Mindsearcher, Truth is the way and the monster track- Look at the world. Thanks for shwocasing them - we want more chief great stuff!

Great track by One World, is the LP still for sale?

Comb & Razor said...

Ebere -

I believe I sold that LP but I *might* have another copy somewhere... I'll have to check.
